Blog name change or not to change?
September 20, 2009
Those of you who follow me know that I am starting a new job/career tomorrow. I am no longer in a school or district level position. Now, as an education consultant I will be focusing on the used of SMART products in the classroom. My hope is still have a connection to web 2.0 tools teachers can use but again the primary focus is SMART.
My original title Snapshots of Technology Integration came from two things I enjoy; photography and technology integration. Do you think with the change of jobs that I need to refresh my blog title or in the sake of branding leave it as is. After all, I hope to continue to give little snapshots of how to integrate technology in to the classroom… It would just be with a more specific technology.
What are your thoughts?

I would leave it the same. You are working with SMART Technologies now — and I wish you every success! — but the marketplace is full of change. A bigger company might buy SMART and change the name. Or you might change what you’re doing and work with someone else. Your current name is wonderfully flexible.
FWIW.

My vote is to also leave it the same. Your blog, while probably increasing the content for Smart Apps, will also be a place to share musings, etc, and the name change would maybe you leave content out that otherwise you would enjoy sharing. Consider the blog a place where a future employer might try to find what makes you tick. That future employer may or may not care one whit about Smart, and so wouldn’t get to see the full plate you can bring to the table. Leave it as is, and feel free to blog about Smart or other content you come across and want to share.

I vote for keep it the same. The name is still relevant with your new position. It’s a great name. Plus you have established a great personal brand around this name.

MaryAnn, I vote to leave it the same. The blog is you and not your job. I am really excited about your job change. I know you will do a fantastic job. You are the best!
