    Mary Ann,

Thanks for sharing. That hit home with me on a number of levels as well. I think that knowing other people share your “pain” makes it more bearable, and gives you more patience to help the people with many other things on their mind learn how to use the new tool.

I think something this didn’t mention was the trust factor. The early adopters can convince those around them because the team trusts them. With far-flung social networks, we have a greater range of people we trust, which makes it even easier for us to try new ideas.

I recognize that I’m probably closer to the normal population than an early adopter. This week, I was trying to turn something around quickly in Word 2007, and was frustrated because I knew exactly where the button was in Word 2003. Sometimes we only change when our old tools are taken away – we’re forced to!

Hope your first week at the new job was great!
